In kindergarten we had long pointers we could use, kept in a tin bucket, and we could choose one and go pointing at the many objects around the room and high up on the walls. The walls were at least 10 feet high but with a pointer I could get to the top. My favorite one resembled a pencil.

Sometimes I could exit the room and go into the hallway with the pointer.

Objects on the walls were flat and shiny, things like apples and butterflies. Vibrant colors. They were shiny ’cause they were laminated, lamination was one of my favorite things. I preferred all the shiny, smooth papers either from the lamination process or from the overhead projector.
